Import your price book
Bring your items in from a spreadsheet: the columns we need, the units we understand, and how updates work.
Most shops keep prices in a spreadsheet, a binder or the owner's head. The first two import in a few minutes. The third takes a phone call.
What the file needs
Save your sheet as a CSV, one item per row, with a header row. Three columns are required. The rest are optional and can be blank.
| Column | Required | What goes in it |
|---|---|---|
| name | Yes | What the customer reads on the quote |
| unit | Yes | each, hour, ft and so on (list below) |
| price | Yes | Your selling price, no dollar sign |
| cost | No | What it costs you. Never shown to customers |
| category | No | Equipment, Materials, Labor, Removal, Permits or Service |
| taxable | No | yes or no |

"EV charger circuit, 60 A, up to 50 ft",each,1680.00,520.00,Materials,yes
"Electrician, per hour",hour,145.00,62.00,Labor,noUpload it from Settings, then Price book, then Import. You see a preview of every row before anything changes, with problems marked in red: a missing price, a unit we do not know, a duplicate name.
Units we understand
each, hour, ft, sq ft, square (roofing, 100 sq ft), ton, gal and lot. If your sheet says "ea" or "hr", we read those too. Anything else imports as each, and the preview tells you which rows changed.
Updating prices
Import the same file again with new prices. Rows match on name and unit together, so "Electrician, per hour" at $145 becomes $152 without creating a second item. Quotes already sent keep the prices they were sent with. Only new quotes and new revisions use the new price.
Raising prices in January? Import the new sheet on the first working day and every quote from then on picks it up. Nobody has to remember.
Let us do it
On Triplicate we import it for you. Email the file to support@carbonset.example, or send photos of the binder pages. We type it in, check the units with you on a short call, and have it loaded within 2 business days.
