Take deposits by card or bank transfer
Set the deposit, see what the customer sees, and know the fees, payouts and refunds before the first one.
A signed quote with no deposit is still a maybe. Taking the deposit in the same sitting as the signature is what turns it into a job on the calendar.
Setting the deposit
Set a percentage or a fixed amount. The default is 30%. You can change it per quote, or per option when the options are very different in size. The customer copy shows the deposit beside the total, and the balance due on completion under both.
| On a $12,960.00 quote | Customer pays now |
|---|---|
| 30% | $3,888.00 |
| 50% | $6,480.00 |
| Fixed | $500.00 |
What customers see
After they sign, the button reads Pay deposit with the amount on it. They choose card or bank transfer and finish on the payments processor's own secure page. Carbonset never sees or stores a card number. We keep the last four digits and the receipt, nothing more.
Customers can also sign now and pay later. The quote stamps SIGNED, follow-up stops, and the slip sits in Signed with the deposit due until it is paid.
Fees and payouts
| Method | Processor fee | Payout |
|---|---|---|
| Card | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2 business days |
| Bank transfer | 1%, capped at $10 | 2 business days after it clears |
Fees go to the processor. Carbonset adds nothing on top. On a $3,888.00 deposit, a bank transfer costs $10.00 and a card costs $113.05, which is why many shops nudge big deposits toward bank transfer.
Refunds
Refund from the quote page within 120 days of payment. Partial refunds are fine. The refund shows on the timeline and goes to your accounting software with the rest of the handoff.
Check your state's rules for home improvement deposits. Some cap the deposit as a share of the contract price.
