What we found walking it
Oak and tulip poplar on a ridge that falls 34 feet to the north, toward the Sound. The brush below the ridge is too thick to walk without a machete; the survey crew cut sight lines and nothing else. A driveway has to climb along the contours, not up them.
- Tall oak and tulip poplar, some 30 in across. We would set the house among them, not in a clearing.
- A driveway that climbs along the contours: about 420 ft of it, with one switchback.
- The Sound shows through the trunks from the top of the ridge in winter.
- The survey is current; the brush is not cut. We walk it in boots, by appointment.
