Thirty minutes for vomiting, diarrhea, or eating less for more than a day. We ask what came up and what might have been eaten, examine the belly, test a stool sample, and add bloodwork only if it would change the plan.

A fresh stool sample, or a photo of the vomit or diarrhea.
When it started, how many times, and what your pet ate last.
The packaging of anything they might have eaten.

Questions

Should I stop feeding?

For an adult dog with one or two episodes, a few hours without food and then small bland meals is usually fine. Puppies, small dogs, and older dogs should be seen the same day.

Do not withhold food from a cat for more than 12 hours. Cats who stop eating can get sick from not eating. Call us.

Why a stool test if it is vomiting?
