CARE GUIDE 02 OF 04

Terracotta: let it breathe.

Water until it drains. Bring it in before a frost.

01

What it is.

Low-fired red clay, porous on purpose. Water moves through the wall, which roots like. We seal the inside so it won’t sweat onto your shelf.

02

Every day.

Water until it runs out of the drainage hole, then let it dry before the next time.

03

Once in a while.

Once a season, scrub the outside with a stiff brush and plain water. White bloom is salt from your water; a little vinegar takes it off.

04

Don’t.

Don’t leave it outside below freezing. Wet terracotta cracks when it freezes.

05

If something goes wrong.

A hairline crack that doesn’t leak can live with it. One that leaks, send us a photo.
